Edinburgh
Known as ‘The Athens of the North’ –
Edinburgh is a beautiful city lying at the
foot of the Pentland Hills and stretching
out to the Forth Estuary at Cramond, Leith
and Portobello.
These are images of Edinburgh and its
surrounding districts, with the Royal Mile
down from the Castle to the Palace and the
Georgian New Town.
This album is forever growing and includes
images of the people and diverse locations.
Amongst them is the Calton Hill with
‘Edinburgh’s Disgrace’ the unfinished
building resembling the Acropolis in Athens.
There is a section on one of the oldest
graveyards in Edinburgh, which was brought
to fame worldwide thanks to the Disney Film,
‘Greyfriars Bobby’ the story of a little dog
that slept on his master’s grave in the
graveyard. There is an image of the dog’s
statue outside Greyfriars Churchyard. People
often go to the cemetery during work breaks
to eat their packed lunches.
The city still retains areas of darkened
stonework from the days of coal fire
chimneys belching out their smoke and the
city is still fondly known by the locals as
‘Auld
Reekie’.
I have neglected to take more images of
Edinburgh City, something that I intend to
rectify in the coming months.
There are other Edinburgh albums – including
the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Butterfly
Farm and the Edinburgh Zoo, which are all well worth
viewing.
The photo web has been designed
using Adobe Lightroom.
